The cobas® CRP Test Gen. 2 enables rapid and accurate measurement of C-reactive protein directly at the point-of-care and helps healthcare professionals make timely and informed clinical decisions. Using a small sample volume of just 13 µl, the test can be performed with capillary blood or serum, as well as with venous EDTA- and lithium heparin-anticoagulated whole blood or plasma. For capillary blood testing, samples can be applied directly after a finger prick, eliminating the need for a separate blood draw. The test offers a wide CRP measurement range of 3–400 mg/l or 0.30–40.0 mg/dl and delivers reliable results in less than four minutes. This makes important information available immediately at the point-of-care and can support the assessment of infections as well as decisions regarding further patient care. In particular, CRP measurement can help distinguish between viral and bacterial infections, support the targeted use of antibiotics, and promote antimicrobial stewardship. Furthermore, the CRP level can provide valuable additional information when assessing and monitoring the course of therapy, for example, following antibiotic treatment. The cobas® CRP Test Gen. 2 also impresses in daily use with its ease of handling and storage. The test discs can be stored at 2–30 °C, making them easy to integrate into practice or care workflows. With a reported precision of 1.7–2.5% CV in serum, the test combines a small sample volume, short test duration, and a wide measurement range with reliable CRP determination at the point-of-care.
