The basic principle of desiccants is that they have a higher affinity to moisture than the surrounding air or material to be dried. As a result, they attract and bind the moisture, making the air or material drier.
It is important to note that desiccants need to be replaced or regenerated regularly as they exhaust their moisture absorption capacity over time. Regeneration is usually done by heating to evaporate the bound water or to reverse chemical reactions.
