The right bottle for any laboratory work

Reagent bottles which can contain chemicals in liquid or powder form require the appropriate material for their intended use. Reagent bottles, media bottles, or graduated bottles are containers that can be made out of glass. Borosilicate glass is a type of glass which is made using silica and boron oxide, making the glass resistant to thermal shocks. For example, Duran® borosilicate glass 3.3 with GLS 80 thread. In this case, the borosilicate glass bottle includes an outer amber-colored polymer coating which can provide further protection from scratching, leaking and splintering. Additionally, the amber color provides UV protection up to approximately 500nm. This particular laboratory bottle includes clear graduation from the outside of the bottle.

Reagent bottles may also be made out of plastic. The types we offer at Fleischhacker are made of LDPE, Nalgene™ HDPE IP2 and PPCO. LDPE is a low-density polyethylene, which is a thermoplastic made of monomer ethylene, and therefore, has been chiefly used in packaging. Whereas HDPE IP2 or Nalgene™ is a thermoplastic polymer, made of high-density polyethylene and so can resist external influences, such as splitting. On the other hand, PPCO can provide a combination of benefits of the polymers ethylene and propylene, such as its autoclavability.

In addition to material, bottles also come with a variety of thread sizes. We offer the common GL or GLS thread type for round bottles made of glass or plastic and bottles come in a range of sizes with optional graduation. Ground joint reagent bottles are also available with optional stoppers. Some bottles have a spray bottle top attachment for washing. Aside from the larger bottle sizes, we also offer small, droplet dispenser bottles with the same material choices and optional lids, for example, pipette screw lids, spout caps and screw lids.
